History Of Caldarium M.C.C.
Caldarium M.C.C, an Oxford based Club, was founded in August of
2000, originally there where six Founder Members, but now only
two of the original six are still Members and Officers of the
Club.
Our Membership ranges from 18yrs to 60 plus, from Housewives,
Carers, Warehouseman to Accountants, we are basically one big
happy family. We own and ride Motorbikes, mopeds and Trikes.
Although our Membership does change (number wise) we seem to
very quickly settle back at around thirty mark. The unusual
thing about us, as opposed to most other ‘side patch’ clubs, it
that our membership is pretty much fifty-fifty, male-female
membership and in the Officers too.
We like to consider ourselves to be a family friendly Club,
although saying that, we’re not everyone’s cuppa tea! And not
everywhere we go or do is suitable for too younger a peeps. On
the whole we are one big happy family, anyone found trying to
change that in the negative is quickly detected and removed.
Caldarium, like a lot of Motorcycle Clubs, raise monies for
charity, we do this through out the year, but predominately,
twice a year in the form of our ‘Egg Run’ at Easter and our ‘Hex
Rated Rally’ in the last weekend of October. We do expect one
hundred percent attendance from our membership for these two
events.
At the present time we meet fortnightly at The Lord Nuffield,
Barracks Lane, Oxford. (Previously known as Morris Motors Sports
& Social).
Another very unusual thing about us (it may even be unique) as a
side patch club, is that we don’t have a President. We think of
ourselves as Democratic and call ourselves a ‘Council’ and we
consist of: a Sergeant At Arms, a Treasurer, a Rally Secretary,
a Public Relations Officer, Area Representative and a Club
Secretary (that’s me!)
Caldarium are also part of a Coalition of about 16/17 Motorcycle
Clubs and Groups from all over the Thames Valley Region – called
spookily enough The Thames Valley Coalition. It’s proven to be a
great way of finding out what clubs are out there and
co-ordinating our events trying to make sure that they don’t
clash. The TVC also raise money for local charities.
Caldarium have had a very fruitful and enjoyable 8 years so far
and look forward to enjoying many more. And by the way although
we are very good at raising money for charity, we also know how
to party!
